Military Branch, Rank, and Unit:
Major, USAF, Nurse Corps
Deployed for Operation Desert Storm, December 1990 - February 1991
Deployed for Humanitarian Mission - Medical Flag Niger, May 1993
Hometown: I am an Air Force "brat" and therefore do not have a traditional home city and state. I plan to retire in Texas.
Personal Profile:
I
come from a strong military background. My grandfather,
great-uncle, father and mother
all served, and my husband Michael just
retired after 31 years in the Air Force. I have two wonderful
step-children, Cathy and George. George is currently serving in
Iraq with the Marine Corps.
I've lived in 15 places
around the world, 9 of those on active-duty. Beyond assisting
military families through pregnancy and childbirth, my most memorable
experience was seving on a humanitarian mission to Niger, Africa.
We traveled via airplane and helicopter to remote villages, providing
basic dental, pediatric, and well-woman care to villagers who otherwise
would have walked 2-5 days in order to reach health
services. As a nurse provider, I would function in the
field in the role most needed (staff nurse, provider, command,
etc.).
I am proud to be a member of the United States Air Force and the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
