Credit for peer review of textbook chapters toward CCA requirements (approved Dec. 2006)
The Board of Directors at its Dec. 2006 meeting approved peer review of textbook chapters as an acceptable alternative in lieu of CEUs toward meeting CCA requirements. This brings the total number of other activities besides CEUs that count toward completion of your CCA cycle to six activities. The Continuing Competency Section of the Division of Education strives to make the CCA program as flexible as possible for participants while maintaining its integrity. Below are the general guidelines that the Section has developed for determining whether the chapter and text are suitable to use as an acceptable alternative.
*The criteria used for evaluating a non-research Chapter in a text book, or an original book are as follows: 1. Subject matter: Relevant to the practice of midwifery - clinical, education, administration, or research. 2. Literature review: Reflects a comprehensive review of the current literature. 3. Presentation: Reflects organization, style, grammatical structure, and clarity.

Credit for precepting toward CCA requirements (approved Dec. 2005) The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that CCA (Continuing Competency Assessment) participants can now receive credit for time spent precepting midwifery students. The BOD also extends a sincere thank you to all preceptors for their continuing commitment to midwifery education and to the ACNM Division of Education CCA Section, Preceptor Development and Support Section and staff for their work in developing and implementing this new option.
CCA participants can report up to the equivalent of 1.0 CEU (10 contact hours) for time spent precepting a student nurse-midwife (SNM) or student midwife (SM). A section has been added to the Self Reporting Form under the heading "Acceptable Alternatives in Lieu of CEU" where time spent precepting can be calculated and recorded.
