Staff Information

Jo Ann Burke
Education Administrative Assistant

Jo Ann (Josie) is the Education Administrative Assistant for the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME), the official accrediting body of ACNM. She works with members of the ACME as they plan and implement the accreditation process, and with its accredited midwifery education programs and institutions to assist them in meeting accreditation standards, including U.S. Department of Education requirements. Jo Ann graduated from Connecticut College and earned a degree in International Education from Framingham State College while living in Costa Rica. Her part-time job with the ACME allows her to continue teaching part-time.





Melinda Bush
Continuing Education Coordinator

Melinda provides support for the continuing competency assessment (CCA) and continuing education programs.  She also supports the home study programs for the JMWH.  She holds a bachelor's degree in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Cincinnati.





Patrick J. Cooney
Federal Lobbyist (Off-Site)

Patrick is the Principal at The Federal Group, Inc. Prior to forming the firm in 1999, Patrick represented the interests of the nation's physical therapists as Senior Policy Advisor at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  As the senior advocate for the physical therapy profession, he was responsible for the federal legislative and political strategies of the profession on Capitol Hill. Patrick represented the interests of clinical laboratory scientists prior to joining the physical therapists. As Assistant Director of Government Affairs for the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, he lobbied Congress on a range of issues relating to the quality of laboratory testing and access to qualified personnel. Prior to working as a lobbyist, Patrick served as a legislative aide to a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and a member of the U.S. Senate. He has expansive knowledge of the legislative, regulatory, and political processes in Washington. Patrick is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He is originally from Omaha and remains a big Cornhusker football fan.





Monica Greenfield
Program Coordinator

Monica provides administrative and programmatic support for the Director, Senior Technical Advisor, State Policy Analyst, Federal Lobbyist, and Government Affairs Committee. She has worked in the non-profit sector for over 20 years with organizations such as the Children's Defense Fund and United Way of the National Capital Area.





Meredith Graham
Director of Finance

Meredith M. Graham is ACNM's Director of Finance. She is responsible for managing the full accounting functions including accounts receivable; accounts payable; payroll; general ledger; and prepares monthly financial statements and the annual budget for ACNM. Prior to joining ACNM, Meredith’s accounting career began with four years of public accounting. She worked for firms such as McGladrey & Pullen and Bond Beebe. She planned and preformed audits and reporting of not-for-profit organizations including local and international labor organizations, trade associations and their related employee benefit plans. Meredith’s broad experience encompasses financial statement and operational auditing, internal control evaluation, and preparation of Forms 990, 990-T, and 5500. After her public accounting journey was completed. Meredith entered the not-for-profit industry. She has a cumulative of fifteen years working in the day to day operations of a not-for-profit accounting department. Meredith's core talents within the not-for-profit industry include management of various accounting functions (AP, AR, Payroll etc.), preparing various analytical reports, evaluating and establishing internal controls, and ensuring all financial accounting information is in conformity with GAAP. Meredith has a Bachelor of Science-Accounting from University of Maryland University College and a MBA from Trinity University in Washington, DC.





Kim Barnes
Senior Accountant

Kim comes to ACNM with several years of experience in accounting. She is responsible for accounts payable, payroll and general ledger reconciliations. Kim also supports Meredith Graham, the Director of Finance. Previously, she was staff accountant for the American Public Transportation Association and Graphics Communications International Union. Kim is a graduate of Prince George’s Community College where she majored in business management.





D. Tate
Financial specialist/program coordinator

D. Tate joined ACNM in February 2008 as the financial specialist/program coordinator. Tate will be handling accounts receivable, processing credit cards and cash receipts, and managing customer service issues. He comes to ACNM with several years of experience in accounting, office management, logistics, and human resources. Tate is currently a political science major and art minor at the University of Maryland University College. He prefers to be called Tate and can be reached at dtate@acnm.org.





Yolanda Landon
Communications Manager

Yolanda Landon serves as the new Communications Manager for ACNM. Landon will manage all marketing, media relations and public relations activities; in addition, she will oversee all print and electronic materials (excluding the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health). In her most recent position as a Senior Communications Specialist for DeKalb Medical in Atlanta, Landon was responsible for developing and executing communication plans, managing publications, providing support for individual hospital service lines and departments, and also managed operations, maintenance and content development of hospital web sites and intranet. She specializes in media relations, grassroots outreach and publication management. She earned her bachelor's degree in journalism at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), where she also minored in women's studies.





Simone Christian
Graphic Designer

Simone J. Christian is ACNM's graphics designer and Webmaster. Simone began studying art and design with her father at the age of six. She has worked primarily in the non-profit sector; one of her career goals is “to bring good elegant design to those with little access to it.” Art, photography, music, and public service are my passions. Simone received a bachelor's in design from the University of Baltimore, and will complete her studies for a master's in design within the next year. If Simone is not in front of a computer, she can be found with a camera in her hand, baking bread, or riding her bike.





Melissa Garvey
Writer & Editor

Melissa is the Writer and Editor for ACNM and the Editor of Quickening. She manages the production tasks involved in producing ACNM's quarterly newsletter. Melissa holds a bachelor's degree in Health Science from the University of North Florida and has several years of professional writing experience, including an internship with Yoga Journal magazine.
